The R335 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Nelson Mandela Bay in the south to Somerset East to the north via Addo. It was originally constructed by Henry Fancourt White in 1849, but White resigned during the construction phase to take up a post in parliament, leaving the project in the capable hands of the assistant roads engineer, Mr. Matthew Woodifield, whose name appears carved into a rock slab near the southern end of the pass. At one stage this was the main road from the Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth
On the northern side was Ann's Villa built in 1864 to accommodate travellers. On top the pass is the Zuurberg Inn The Zuurberg Manor is the original part of the hotel dating back to 1861 for travellers from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth .It is still in use .
